.docx vs PDF, measured
A .docx is a zip archive of XML, so it is already compact and stays editable. PDF trades that away for a fixed rendering: fonts and layout are embedded, so the page looks the same on a phone, a print shop's machine and a decade-old desktop.

Measured on a short report containing headings, body text, a table and a list, converted with LibreOffice, the same engine this converter uses. The same document as legacy .doc is 14,336 bytes, roughly double the .docx, because the older binary format does not compress. PDF overhead is mostly embedded fonts, so it is closer to a fixed cost than a multiple and matters less the longer the document. Embedded means substituted then embedded: the PDF carries whichever face the render machine supplied, not necessarily the one the document asked for.
Questions
Does it preserve formatting?
Tables, images, lists and layout come through. Fonts are the honest caveat: a .docx names its fonts rather than carrying them, so the converter substitutes what it has. Word's defaults are safe, because Calibri, Cambria, Arial and Times New Roman all have metric-compatible stand-ins that occupy exactly the same width, so line breaks hold. A brand or purchased font has no such stand-in and falls back to Liberation Serif. Embed the fonts in the .docx first if the exact face matters.
What happens to tracked changes?
They are printed, including the deletions. We measured this: a document with one unaccepted edit produced a PDF whose text layer still contained the deleted phrase, struck through and selectable, with the reviewer's change bar in the margin. Accept or reject every change before converting, or you are publishing the edit history rather than the document. Comments behave the other way and are dropped.
Can I convert DOC files too?
Yes. Both legacy .doc and modern .docx formats are supported.
Is my document safe?
Files are processed in memory and immediately discarded. Nothing is stored on disk or logged.
What is the file size limit?
Individual files can be up to 25MB.
